Have you ever heard the old tale of eating carrots can save you from wearing glasses? Or how about that sitting to close to the television will make you go blind? Though this advice may sound a little silly as we become adults, we are still clouded by our young age teachings. Knowing the myth from the facts will not only help to clear up our clouded minds, but may even help to educate others including our own children. So read on to see if any of what you believe to be true is or…
Wearing the wrong eyeglasses is bad for your eyes:
Believe it or not, this is a myth. Wearing the wrong prescription, someone else’s glasses, or not wearing glasses at all will not harm your eyes. The simple truth is that by wearing a prescription that is correct for you will give you optimal vision.
Working on a computer is bad for your eyes:
Though people do have a tendency to suffer from eyestrain while working on computers, it actually does not come from working on the computer but the way they actually work on them. You see, a lot of us forget to blink and to take breaks often. Though this type of behavior will not damage your eyes, it can make them tired and dry. The worst that you could suffer is a headache. So if you work a lot on the computer and reading, be sure to look away approximately every 15 minutes and focus on something else in the room. Also reminding ourselves to blink is good as well. Now you know that “Working on a computer is bad for your eyes” is false.
Eating carrots will imporve your vision:
As it stands, no studies to date show that your eyesight will get any better by just eating more carrots. Carrots do contain vitamin A, a nutrient that your eyes need to function properly, so a deficiency could be bad for your eyes. Though keeping the rabbit food on the menu is an excellent way to help maintain your health, it is not necessary to take vitamin A supplements. The reason being is that your body is not in need of lots of it. And it is possible that getting to much of it can be harmful to your health. With this information, we can see that it this myth is not completely false but also not completely true.
Wearing contact lenses or glasses will make your eyes dependant on them:
This myth has been around for quite some time. People actually believing that by using corrective lenses to see better believe that it actually makes their eyes weaker. The truth is that using correction vision will only achieve the user to have peak vision. It is with age, diseases, injury, or genetic factor that makes your vision worse. Note that by not using corrective lenses may create eye fatigue. With this information, we know this to be false.
Sitting to close to the television is bad for your eyes:
This is one of my favorites. As a child, I loved to sit as close as I could to the TV. Shortly after I was diagnosed as having to wear eye glasses. I was told by my piers that it had to do with sitting so close the TV. So lets get down to the truth. The same holds true to this as working on the computer. You may get a headache from sitting too close to your TV, but their has been no proof in any study that shows that being in close proximity to the television is damaging to the eyes. Though if you do notice yourself or someone sitting to close could be suffering from nearsightedness.
Reading in dim light damages your eyes:
When doing your brain exercises, it is necessary to make it easier on your eyes and work in adequate lighting but know that working in lower light has no effect on damaging the eyes. As a matter of fact, the worse that can happen is tiring them out.
Now that all the facts are out, which ones were you believing to be true? Have you ever heard any others that were not listed here?
