More Oatmeal Facts

by:  Charles Van Order

We all know that oatmeal has a lot of great properties.  Not only is it a super food high in fiber that eliminates cholesterol from our body, but did you know that it can also be greatly beneficial when used outside  the body?  This is a true statement.  Oatmeal can actually rid your skin of dead cells, irritation and redness.  It will also leave your skin soft, moist and glowing!

The fact is that Oatmeal has been used by many of the skin pros.  It was even used in ancient times as far back as 2000 BC.  Even today, the FDA has cited that it is effective for relieving dryness and inflammation due to insect stings, rashes and eczema.  Why do you think that oatmeal has turned up in body lotions, moisturizers, and soaps.  The oatmeal is usually ground into a powder to disperse its healing goodness before being added to the product.

Below you will see the four great reasons why our skin loves these little oats:

Dryness Fighter

Oats contain polysaccharides (polymeric carbohydrate).  When mixed with water, it becomes gelatinous and leaves a fine protective film on the skin.  This helps prevent flaky dry skin and dulling.

Moisturizer

The healthy lubricating fats that are in oatmeal help to keep the skin moisturized without clogging the pores.  This can be more beneficial than using a cheap body lotion.  Especially in more sensitive skin areas such as the face.

Pore Cleanser

Oatmeal is filled with a natural cleanser (saponin).  In ancient times, this product was used to create soap.  It gently removes dirt and oil from the pores allowing the skin’s natural oils to flow.

Defense Builder

The proteins found in oatmeal actually help to maintain the skin’s natural barrier function.  This ensures that the skin will keep it’s precious nutrients inside and not be stripped by the pollutants outside. The barrier also works in reverse by allowing the skin to be protected and not allowing toxins to enter it.

To be able to reap all of these benefits, it is suggested that you treat your skin to an oatmeal mask every week or two.  The super simple recipe can be found in the Bath Bombs and Soap Recipes Book.

A Good Note

Don’t stop putting this “beauty” food into your body.  Oatmeal is still a wonderful source of fiber, which most Americans are still short on getting into their diets, and what is the point of looking beautiful on the outside if you are not beautiful on the inside.
